Ethiopia Nano Genji

We have extremely high standards for Ethiopian coffees - especially washed Ethiopians as so many of them can taste...well...boring. That's why we rarely offer them. But when we find them...look out.

This coffee shines. Grown at a ridiculous 2200 MASL by various smallholders in and around the Agaro region in Jimma, this coffee comes to us from Nano Genji, Nano Challa’s new sibling mill. Historically one of the most coveted coffees in all of Western Ethiopia, Nano Challa membership did such an amazing job with production and processing that the tremendous premiums they were receiving caused their membership to swell to a level that pushed their capacity as far as it could go. In 2019 they opened Nano Genji, a few miles away with brand new Penagos equipment, along with dozens of drying beds to accommodate their growing membership. With 630 members between the two washing stations, they’re looking forward to continued growth and success—and we’re looking forward to even more volume, and even better coffee this year and beyond.

This is a clean and floral coffee with a lot of sweetness and a silky mouthfeel.
Sweet lemon, sugar cane juice and floral honey are very prominent from the beginning.  As it cools the fresh juicy stone fruit notes remind us of a ripe nectarine.
