A super tasty coffee from Nyeri County is from the Mutitu wet mill, founded in 1957 - one of the oldest operating factories in Kenya. Today it's part of the Rugi Farmers Cooperative Society - nearly 750 farmers deliver coffee to this wet mill where it is washed, graded and soaked for 36 hours before being dried on raised beds for up to 20 days. The coop borders Wajee Nature Park, a bird conservancy home to 126 local species of birds. They cultivate coffee at the edges of the park because of the healthy relationship between trees birds.
The coffee is of the SL 34 and 28 varietals, grown at 1700 MASL and fully washed.
We're tasting bing cherries and black currant with a strawberry acidity.
