Mexico La Cañada Fria Cup of Excellence Lot

We are beyond excited to share with you this lot - our first ever Cup of Excellence lot!

This incredible lot comes to us from Mr. Daniel Cobilt Castro, owner of Finca Cañada Fría which is located on the Huatusco - Xalapa highway nearby the community of Axocuapan, Veracruz. One thing we loved about Mr. Castro is his commitment to quality and the environment.

The farm uses shade from "Dizpepe" trees, Higuerilla (Ricinus communis), avocado, Chinene (Persea schiedeana), brebilia, oak, guava. No herbicides nor fungicides are used. They take great care to not use hoes that erode the soil.

They started committing to specialty coffees 13 years ago each year improved the quality of their coffees. They have placed in the COE before, starting in 2012.

This lot was 21st this year at the COE and we were beyond lucky we landed it. Grown at 1450MASL, the washed lot includes Bourbon, Pacamara, Typica and Caturra varietals.

We get notes of raisins, plum and chocolate in this incredibly sweet coffee.

DIRECT TRADE COFFEE

To us, direct trade means that we've visited the farm, have a relationship with the producer, and understand how much of the price the producer is getting - and we'll share that with you as the "farmgate" price.Text
